RUMBLE & ROLL
Rumble & Roll is an original acrylic painting and is part of my Thunder Skies Series. It is 24” x 36” and is set in a black floating frame, ready to hang.
I grew up in Southern California. As you may have guessed, I’ve experienced an earthquake or two. Once, I actually experienced an earthquake of significant magnitude (couldn’t tell you what exactly) while I was driving on the freeway. Not gonna lie - that was one weird experience. Though unproven, many of us experienced earthquakers would say that around September or October, when there is a heat wave and the Santa Ana winds are blowing - that’s earthquake weather.
There’s a rumbling that either precedes or accompanies an earthquake. If you’ve been in one, you know. It takes a moment to process what is happening. Earthquakes rock and earthquakes roll. The rolling ones are a bit less jarring, though equally terrifying, and at the onset of the rumbling, you wait to see which one it will be.
Thunderstorms share some qualities with earthquakes. In this painting, you can almost hear the rumbling of thunder as the clouds roll across the sky and across the water. Whether in California, or weather in Minnesota, I’m always waiting for the Rumble & Roll.
