WHAT THE...HAIL
WHAT THE…HAIL
What the Hail is an original acrylic painting and is part of my Thunder Skies Series. It is 30” x 40” and is set in a black floating frame, ready to hang.
No doubt my intrigue with thunderstorms comes largely from the fact that I was raised in a climate where they were not often experienced. When I moved to a stormy part of the country, my fascination with their unpredictability in our skies began. The storms make me think of Whirling Dervishes. The storm clouds whirl around in a beautiful performance, in a ceremonious performance, holding me in a trance-like state while I watch them, knowing that everything they do is purposeful and meant to be seen.
When the skies turn green, we know what is imminent. This will be a performance, indeed. We are told to seek shelter, stay indoors and away from windows. So naturally I run to the window or outside to watch the sky put on her veil of many colors as she prepares herself for a magnificent dance.
As if the first act of this performance is over, there is a thunderous applause. Actually, a terrifying, relentless, ear-battering sound. It is confusing and frightening, like a barrage of never ending bullets landing on my roof. During a time of great civil unrest. In a city of great civil unrest. What the…Hail.
