COTTON CANDY SWIRLS
Cotton Candy Swirls is an original acrylic painting and is part of my Thunder Skies Series. It is 30” x 40” and is set in a black floating frame, ready to hang.
There is an expression for people that enjoy desserts: “Sweet tooth”. All my life I’ve been held hostage to this particular tooth. Though in my case, I like to say my love affair with sugar certainly gives me license to say that my entire mouth is inhabited by “sweet tooth”, every tooth wears that label.
These demanding teeth were the culprits that led me to a fascination with cotton candy in my childhood. Oh how magnificent this weird little spun sugar creature is! In elementary school we always had a school carnival. There were many games to play, toys and goldfish to win, even a cake walk, which provided some measure of hope that I might come home with a goldfish AND a cake. But really, all I wanted to do was watch these wispy, spider webby threads of pink sugar, like angel wings, wrap themselves around that cardboard cone. And then I couldn’t wait to reach out my small hand and give the nice lady a quarter in exchange for this magical treat, which was certainly worth $100 (boy did they miss a fundraising opportunity there!), and gingerly touch just the tip of my tongue to it, melting it into my tastebuds.
In this painting, the pink flowers on the trees, the movement of the clouds, the swirling rotation of the water, and the pink hue of the sunset remind me of my beloved Cotton Candy Swirls.
